Illusions

I love cables, I really do - what I don't like is the bulk, the way they pop up and whatever you do, they just won't sit flat!
Maybe that's the idea though, maybe cables aren't into the 'flat look'. But I am, especially when it comes to my knitted items:
I do not need extra bulk!
So last winter I came across this neat, flat cable: an illusion - a cable that isn't really a cable. I loved it and when it came time to knit up my beautiful cashmere yarn, I didn't hesitate to include a couple (or 3) in the design.

HI...
i am in love with the cable illusion scarf. A girl at work mentioned she would love a cable scarf. So when I saw yours it is PERFECT!!!
However, PLEASE tell me what SKP is. I am thinking "skip" but I want to be sure. If it is then I am to just pass the stitch over to the right needle. Please let me know. I just found your blog and will visit often.
Thanks

Dorothy, SKP: slip 1 st, K the 2nd st and pass that 2nd st over the slipped st. So, you only slip 1 st (that is pass it over to the right needle) but DON'T FORGET TO K1, AND PASS THE SLIPPED ST OVER!

Hi Black Dog Knits!
Congrats to the both of us for joining and becoming members of the Knitting Blog ring! I love your blog, by the way, and especially the faux cable pattern. If you developed the chart yet, will you please e-mail it to me? Thanks so much.

You are very talented and I want to make the illusion cable scarf. I wonder if you could clarify two things: 1. Based on your pattern, how much yarn should I buy? 2. Is SKO the same as SKPO? Thanks so much!

Anon:

1. That depends on your desired length and tension (rows per inch). I used 4 x 50g balls of yarn.

2. SKP is the same as SKPO (Sl 1, K1, PSSO).

Thanks for your compliment - you're very kind. x

I'm planning to attempt the scarf, but I'm a little confused on one thing: on the WS, is it P2tog (as in the pattern) or P2tog tbl (as in the chart)?

Karla: it is p2tog tbl.

Being a lazy person I've made the pattern a bit easier for myself for a pair of socks. Probably not as effective but anyway, I've reversed the direction of the cable so I can do K2tog/P2tog rather than the SKPO and P2tog tbl. YO remains the same.

Hi,

I also love your patterns and the thorough instructions that you share. I just want to let you know that in Firefox the chart for this scarf not aligned with the picture and is cut off. I checked it in IE and the layout is fine.

Thanks,

Knitter from Oz,
Loved your cable, last winter I knitted it up as a scarf, and it has worn really well. Thanks for your designs.

I definitely want to attempt this pattern soon, but I don't think I'm quite adept enough at knitting yet... Still trying to decipher the instructions! Thanks for the pattern!
